Dubai, United Arab Emirates – January 30, 2025: A significant panel discussion was held today at Zayed University in Dubai under the title: “The Role of International Relations in Addressing Global Humanitarian Challenges.” Organized by DIHAD Sustainable Humanitarian Organisation in collaboration with Zayed University, the panel explored contemporary global humanitarian challenges, focusing on the critical role of international relations and diplomacy in fostering global cooperation to address these crises effectively.
The discussion underscored the importance of strengthening international partnerships to mitigate the impact of humanitarian crises and conflicts and to support humanitarian aid efforts in affected regions. In a world increasingly confronted by complex humanitarian challenges, international relations and diplomacy have become essential tools for ensuring peace and stability.
The “DIHAD+ Dubai” Panel Discussion is part of the DIHAD+ global initiative, which fosters the exchange of knowledge and expertise among experts and organizations in humanitarian relief and development. The initiative aims to address pressing global humanitarian challenges through innovative and sustainable solutions. Following the successful launch of DIHAD+ Rome at Luiss University in Italy in 2024, DIHAD Sustainable Humanitarian Organisation continues to collaborate with various institutions, providing platforms to address critical global issues.
H.E. Mohamed Hussain Shareef, Ambassador of the Maldives to the UAE, emphasized the panel’s importance in highlighting the role of international relations in promoting stability in regions facing humanitarian crises, stating: “Tactful and sustained diplomacy in bilateral and multilateral relations forges mutual understanding and trust that is pivotal in delivering timely humanitarian assistance in times of crises, conflict and catastrophe.”
Eng. Khaled Al Attar, Director General of DIHAD Sustainable Humanitarian Organisation, delivered compelling insights and solutions, underscoring the vital contributions of individuals and organizations in driving positive change within the international community. He emphasized the transformative impact of the first-ever Master’s Degree Program in Sustainable Humanitarian Action, offered by DIHAD Humanitarian College, noting its essential role in shaping future leaders. He asserted: “Through DIHAD Sustainable Humanitarian Organisation, we forge global partnerships that empower us to confront humanitarian challenges with greater sustainability and impact. Collaboration among the public and private sectors and civil society organizations is indispensable to achieving a truly comprehensive and effective humanitarian response.”
Mr. Stephan Andreson, Director of the World Food Programme (WFP) UAE Office and Representative to the GCC Region, remarked: “In a world where food insecurity has reached unprecedented levels, the role of international partnerships and diplomacy is more critical than ever. By bridging the gap between humanitarian assistance and sustainable development, WFP is not only saving lives but also creating pathways for resilient, hunger-free communities. Collaborative action, and discussions such as this one facilitated by DIHAD today, are key to addressing the root causes of hunger and the interconnected crises the world is facing.”
Prof. Michael Allen, Acting Vice President of Zayed University, highlighted the importance of the panel, particularly for students, stating: “This partnership with DIHAD Sustainable Humanitarian Organisation reflects our shared commitment to empowering the next generation by equipping them with the essential knowledge, skills, and practical experience required to address global humanitarian challenges. By offering opportunities for hands-on learning, direct engagement with leading experts in the field, and fostering active community participation, this partnership empowers Zayed University students to create meaningful change and contribute significantly to sustainable humanitarian practices, both locally and globally.”
The discussions emphasized the UAE’s exemplary leadership in tackling global challenges by adopting a visionary and sustainable humanitarian diplomatic approach. The panel further explored advanced methods and strategies to refine and elevate this model.
