To reach the SDGs by 2030 we require new & innovative approaches. Two recent examples illustrate how WFP uses technology and innovation to end hunger:

  1. ShareTheMeal (STM) is a mobile phone app that enables users to “share their meals” with children in need. It costs only US$ 0.50 to feed one child for a day. As of February 2016, 4.7 million meals have been shared by over 460,000 users. Currently STM supports pregnant women and their children in Homs, Syria.
  2. Iris-Scan Payment is a Platform that authenticates payments via biometric iris-scan of people receiving WFP assistance. This ensures assistance reaches those in need and protects them from possible theft or misuse of their assistance. This initiative was launched in refugee camps in Jordan in January 2016.
