Electriciens sans frontières
Electriciens sans frontières is putting in place an innovative project based on energy centers in Madagascar which will have two goals: sell energy services and supply solar energy to local collective structures. Those energy centers, called « Light Cafés », meet completely the needs of remote rural areas. The innovation stands at 4 levels: the gathering of economic development and social services that eases local appropriation and assure the project’s durability; a public-private partnership that involves local municipalities and the State in the governance and that transfer the management to a private operator; the support of selected activities that need specific skills (welding, handicraft) to small local business men who will pay for the consumed electricity, and finally the creation of adapted financing solutions for business men and women (microfinance). The electrical solutions will give priority to local renewable resources.
